Heroism at the Crosswalk

It happened very fast—and let the record show that I witnessed this from not only a good half-football field away, but across two lanes of traffic, so if you’re wondering why I didn’t help, that’s why.

At the busy crosswalk right by the West Campus building (the old Provo High), a man collapsed right in the middle of the road. Worse still, just as he fell, the timer ended and the light turned green again. He wasn’t getting up, and while the turning lane immediately in front of him all graciously stopped short and didn’t run him over, all of the other lanes kept driving like nothing was wrong.

That’s when a girl came sprinting from the other side of the street, dodged one of the moving lanes of traffic, and made her way to the man. She heaved him to his feet, put his arm around her shoulder, and limped him back to the sidewalk. After checking to make sure he was okay and back to standing, she just kept walking to class like she hadn’t just saved a life.

I’m glad she helped out the way she did, and I hope she got to laud those bragging rights to her class today. Sorry I’m late, I was just out saving a life, no big deal. Hey, is this seat taken?

What a wild way to start my day.
