This was originally written in the April of 2023, when the family went out for ramen, and Henry was given to generous challenge to finish both of his bowls of ramen in order to get one comped. He was about ten at the time I think, and the waiter was very impressed.
Once came a lad to a restaurant
Whose order for ramen was double.
The waiter was kind and issued a challenge—
Finish both and he pay for his trouble.
The boy was hungry; and the broth was hot.
In theory, the challenge was a cinch.
So he picked up his chopsticks and then he began,
Eating more noodles in each wobbly pinch.
Then he slammed down the bowl and everyone saw—
It was empty. He’d done it. He’d won.
The ramen was finished, and he was triumphant.
And now, this poem is done.
