Welcome to the Molten Record!

There’s plenty of little explanations scattered throughout the blog, but I thought I’d make something a bit more comprehensive.

About the Blog:

The Molten Record is Anna Penrod’s attempt at recording her life. Like the little footer at the end of every post says, it was inspired by her dad’s blog. His was much more coherent, but the premise remains the same: you can find stories, thoughts, poetry, humor, and drama all wrapped up in the shell of a simple, classic internet blog. It was started in her freshman year of college at BYU, and she intends to keep it going as long as it can withstand the tidal wave of the rapidly-deteriorating internet.

You can navigate subjects more easily by clicking on the tags at the bottom:

Rabbithole Results will bring you to things found on the internet -- maybe weird animal facts, maybe a rant about a movie, maybe a song recommendation.
My Day is where you'll find more random day-to-day posts about the mundane.
Poetry is pretty self-explanatory, as is Thoughts.
There are also a scattering of smaller tags that I forget to use.

About the Author:

Anna Penrod (that’s me) has always wanted to write an about-the-author blurb about herself, but was too impatient to actually write a book first.

She’s constantly enamored by the mundane, known to spout poetry at random, and has a habit of going into insane information rabbit holes that she then inflicts upon her friends and family. She wishes intensely for a brighter, kinder world, and is doing everything she can to see it that way. She believes that nothing good comes from cynicism, and is a fierce and intentional optimist.

Her writing style flips wildly between extremely casual to very formal and wordy — some might say “excessively loquacious” — but is always deeply sincere.

She has a deep love for the whimsical and wholesome that clashes brilliantly with her love for horror and spooky things, though occasionally they overlap in more tasteful ways. She blames it on being born in October. She also carries, ironically, a deep loathing for most forms of social media and more high-tech things like generative AI and the loss of human connection in the world at large. She is still trying to reconcile her more luddite tendencies with her usual optimism, to mixed results. Stay tuned.

She is most inspired by ancient history, (especially that of the dinosaur and prehistoric eras of humanity), nature, and her family and all of the wonderful memories they’ve given to her. When she’s not writing, she’s either deeply engrossed in making art or spending time with the people she loves most.
