The majority of my time while working on homework is spent listening to and watching youtube essays; generally about movies. (And, as anyone who knows me for more than a few days knows, I always will have an opinion about a movie.) And my default tends to be horror movies, just because there are often a few that I’m too scared to watch, or I’m just a little curious. Besides, sometimes you just want to sit back and listen to a paleontologist angrily tell you that Jurassic Park set back the public’s view of Dilophosaurus and how much it bothers them. Anyway—
Last night I had a decidedly weird and artsy dream. But like, gross. You know. Good stuff!
I dreamed that I was called in to check out a mineshaft (my conversation with mom on our walk is most certainly at fault here), and then the mineshaft quickly gave way to walking down an incredibly deep set of very liminal staircases. Kind of greyish, concrete stairs, lit with that horrible bright yellow light. (Fun fact, almost all of my nightmares involve stairs.) But what made this one a nightmare would probably be the fact that each landing before I was able to move on, there were these slimy red vines that looked a little bit like veins. (I can attribute this to watching War of the Worlds, and also some of the artwork by Simon Stalenhag in Things From the Flood). So I kept going until eventually I emerged from a steel door on the side of a highway, and then I woke up. Strange!!
The moral of the story is this: watch video film essays at your own risk: they make your dreams weird. Thanks and goodnight!
