I am doing research for my dinosaur class and learned several facts about the extinction event that made me sad. Thinking about dinosaurs as real-life animals is all well and good until you realize that they died like animals, and then I want to cry. The main thing that made me sad was learning that after the Chicxulub asteroid hit, the amount of sulfur released into the atmosphere made it so that when it rained, it more or less rained battery acid. Sad!
Other than that, I feel a poem broiling in me, but it’s not quite ready to happen yet. Will update on that front later.
In the meantime, I leave you with some really good paleoart from Simon Stalenhag, author of the Tales From the Loop, Things From the Flood, The Electric State, The Labyrinth, and creator of Paleoart for a Swedish museum.
For some reason I find the creamsicle-ish pattern on that T-Rex to be completely delightful. He does a really good job of establishing scale and lighting in his painting, and his style is extremely detailed but made up of a few chunky strokes in a way that I am completely envious of.
