Conservatives enraged over Obama school speech – CNN.com

“Thinking about my kids in school having to listen to that just really upsets me,” suburban Colorado mother Shanneen Barron told CNN Denver affiliate KMGH. “I’m an American. They are Americans, and I don’t feel that’s OK. I feel very scared to be in this country with our leadership right now.”

Listen moron, I almost don’t know what to say to you. THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES IS AN AMERICAN! Holy crap people, how have we gotten to this point?!

    Yes, yes we have.

It’s like we’ve all turned into Amish Robots. In the good ol’ days we would have had the respect to listen to our president even if he was of a differing party affiliation. Children would have sat still at their desks, hands folded in front of them, with rapt attention to hear a speech for our country’s leader.

I think it’s the blind “do as you’re told” mentality encouraged by the related worksheets that has people upset. It is rather premature to start complaining before knowing the content of the speech, though.

When Reagan told me not to do drugs no one complained that the curriculum didn’t have a worksheet questioning him. I actually worked with the DARE program in High School and visited elementary schools (DARE being Nancy Reagan’s program). There was no critical thinking section “Why might drugs actually be good?” In fact there was an awful lot of stuff similar to what is in Obama’s worksheets, “What inspired you the most?” and “How can you help the President?” Perfectly normal questions to ask an elementary school kid who just heard the President give a speech about staying in school or not doing drugs.

We have just gotten so damn partisan in the past decade that half the country thinks that if their candidate didn’t win then he isn’t really the president and anything and everything he does is evil.

Disclaimer, yes, I thought Bush was awful, but you can still find threads online of me telling people they were stupid for calling him Hitler.

Sorry James, that response wasn’t aimed at you. Just the whole thing has gotten so ridiculous…
